Welcome to my website, Canoes and Lampshades.
My name is Peter Ingram-Jones and I have 15 years of experience in building skin-on-frame designed canoes and kayaks concentrating on the F1 kayak design from Cape Falcon Kayaks.
I also build custom-designed lampshades and Stave stools and hence the name Canoes and Lampshades – Hobart.
The skills I have learned in building many canoes and kayaks allow me to be confident in meeting any special requirements that you may have.
Skin-on-Frame F1 Kayak
I run special one-on-one five-day courses where you can build your own skin-on-frame F1 Kayak, a design from Cape Falcon Kayaks, and a Greenland-style paddle. These courses are tailored to suit your particular requirements and are run at my workshop on the shores of the Derwent River, north of Hobart.
I supply all the necessary tools and guidance and you can bring a friend if you wish and we can build two canoes or kayaks at the same time.
F1 Kayak courses
Bring some lunch though morning and afternoon tea/coffee is provided, and if you’re good, a glass of wine or a beer to gloat over progress at the end of the day. We launch on the final day and have an hour on the water working through the fine points of the F1 and the Greenland paddle.
Send me a message via the Contact Page or call me. (Mobile number on the Contact Page) if you wish to know more.
Lampshades and Stave Stools
I also build custom-designed lampshades and Stave stools to your particular requirements. The lampshades are a piece of useable art or art that you can use. The Stave stools are light and strong, look classy and will last a long time.
This lightweight timber technology in the Stave stools are reinforced with stainless steel foot-ring and brackets.
The lasting look, feel and comfort comes from award-winning design PLUS clever engineering AND the right selection of materials. Our leather is rated for commercial use so that the surface patina will retain its classy good look. Our foam is genuine natural latex that will retain its resilience long after synthetic foams have failed. Unlike chrome finishes, the stainless steel foot ring will endure punishing use and always look great.
